I don't want to be good
Gravelly news by Glenna Goodson
After christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him 3 times what was wrong. Finally the boy replied,"that preacher said he wanted us to be brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you guys!"
Last Wednesday night I drove to Ola to 1st Baptist Church's revival. I went especially to hear Paul Milner lead the music. Remember, he was our evangelist for our revival at Rover Baptist Church last week. Paul is a great musician and I was blessed by his singing. I sat by Judy and Tommy Bell--friends from Eastern Star.
Last week I talked with Leslie and June Harvey at the Fowler's restaurant in Plainview.Leslie and June are looking forward to going on vacation to Kennet, Mo. in 2 or 3 months. Thiscity was at one time an Indian village. Leslie has volunteered to help clean the fence rows ofthe Bluffton cemetery and to reset the stones.
At one time my sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Lacey Minnie were approved by DHS to keep Foster children. They kept a teen ager, Vera Johnson for about 4 years. Ialways loved Vera and I always felt she would do well in her life--and she has!!She moved to Colorado, cmpoleted nurse's training and is a registered nurse. She was married and has3 children.I came in from Plainview and there was a message on my answering machine from Vera, I was so proud. She told me she subscribed to the Yell County Record and she loved my column.--that it brought back good memories forher when she was living in Ar.
I'm glad the Record took the picture ofthe daffodils Wayne Hunnicutt planted a few years ago. The ones that spelled Gravelly were so beautiful this year. Ifthe others had not been mowed down, they spelled Wayne's name. Both together were outstanding.
Would you liketo hear about my new diet?Of course you would. It iscalled Medifast. Debbie at the fitness center, ordered my food for me. They send you oatmeal for breakfast and soup for lunch. These are in packets andyou cook them in water in your micro-wave. Also they send powdered shakes andspecial candy bars. I am responsivble for my evening meal.It must be baked or broiled meat--not over 7 ounces, either salad or a green vegetable.. In 4 days I have lost 4 pounds!Wow! by my birthday in May, Ishould be thin!I'm not holding my breath.
Roy Fickle is in Sparks Hospital at Ft. Smith. The doctors are conducting many tests and the results should start coming in Monday, the 20th.Robbie, his wife, and katie, his daughter intend to go to the hospital Monday.Robbie will probably stay a few days.
The Parish twins, Maggie Sullivan and Marie Herrin, celebrated their birthdays, St. Patrick's Day. Don't write and tell me Ihave mis-spelled Parish--it has only one R in it. I had lost their addresses and called Loucinda to get them. She informed me if I did not write them down in my address book as soon as she gave them to me, she would not givethem to me. So I wrote them down.
We had around 30 at our chili supoper at Gravelly's Lodge Hall, Saturday. We want to thank the ones that came andI'm sure the chili and all those desserts were delicious.
I wrote a story about my sister, Kathy, on my Blog this week. My son, Ellis, e-mailed me that he really enjoyed it. There are just 4 years difference in their ages, so they have always been close.
Dennus and June Castleberry's water heater broke and it flooded the kitchen, hall, bath room and living room.. Dennue replaced the hot water heater and now they will replace floor coverings.
I read an interesting editorial in this week's Gazette, blasting cell phones. The movie houses are trying to make it illegal to have the cell phone turned on orto talk on it in the theatre. Good for them!!I have a cell hone but i sometimes hatethose things.People can't seem to go an hour without talking on the phone. Sometimes I wish the phone had not been invented!!I saw acouple out for dinner one night in OKC. and that woman talked on her cell phone all during the meal. If I had been that guy, I would have leftand let her pay forthe meal!Cell hones ring during weddings, in church, at funerals. That isabsolutely rude and stupid!! For a person to go to events and not turn them off, isabsolutely beyond me.
From the mouths of Babes:-----------
My brother in law drives one of the FV school busses.Last week he was having trouble with a little boy named Sam, who is in Kdgn. Lacey corrected him many ties and finally said, "Sam I'm just gongto have to take you to the Principal's office. Sam says, "But I don't want to go to the Principal's office."Lacey told him he would have to be good, and Sam says,"But I don't wantto be good!"
Wanda' Melton's granddaughter, Sharon, was preparing to spank her little 4 year old son. He says"But I'm just a baby!"
I was talking to my 4 year old great grandson on the phone Saturday. He was in trouble from his Mom and was trying to cry. I asked, "Jake what did you do?"He says,"Nanny I just can't help it if forget sometimes. And if I forget a rule,Istill have to pay a CONSEQUENCE!"
J.B. Wagner and Margaret have just hadtheir 2nd great grandchild born the 16th.It isa girl and she weighed 4 lbs.13oz and her name is Lily Paige. The parents live in Conway.
