The most beautiful Yucca plant

Gravelly News by Glenna Goodson

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer she said,"Now class, if stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face." "Yes," the class said. "Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?" A little fellow shouted, "cause your feet ain't empty."

I met a guy named Lionel in Bill Workman's store last week. Lionel said he had worked for Bill and Yvonne off and on for 25 years. In 1981, Bill said he was working in OK. as an electrician. A fellow had Lionel in his truck and told Bill hed was taking him to apply for a job and Billsaid, He has one now from me." Bill and Yvonne brought Lionel back to Young Gravelly to their place. Bill was wanting to go into the chicken business and after a few days, he left Lionel there at Young Gravelly to finish the chicken house and start his chicken business. Thus began a long time of working for Bill. Lionel has been back in Altus , Ok. for a few years but he is back here with Bill now. He tells me he enjoys Gravelly.

Have you tried the new "to go" food place in Briggsville--right near the Methodist church? James and Sherry Metcalf operate the food place. They have good stuff !!!Sherry has an exchange student. You should ask the exchange student to say "Fourche" She says it so cute. I'm sure you have heard the tale that Fred told me several years ago. He said the French were exploring what we now call the Foruche River He said one man was in a boat and the other was in the river. The one in the boat says "Push, Lafave" hence getting the name of Fourche for the river.

I can jusr see the obituary now, "Glenna Goodson killed by a buzzard" Those huge, awful birds just stay in the highway eating their dead prey and you could swear you have driven over one of their wings and then they rise up , right at your windshield. My brother in law says he knew a fellow killed on hwy. 28 cause the buzzard flew into the windshield, causing a fatal accident.

I was walking frm Gravelly to my house last week andI was just struck with the beauty we have here and take for granted. Cindy Clements has the most beautiful Yucca plant at the end of her drive---then you see her beautiful rock house that I remember when Mr. Jabo Clements had that rock brought in to build the house for Mrs. Lily. The yard is so big and beautifully mowed at all times with pretty bushes everywhere. across the road is my parent,s former home--beautiful , over 100 year old Magnolia trees with those beautiful white blossoms. Then next door is Twain Willis' beautiful garden. No place in the city looks this pretty to me. But gee, you get older and your health fails and a specialist is 50 or 100 miles away--and in oKC they would be just a few minutes away---So what to do ? It is a hard decision.

Friday I went by the re-hab center at Dardanelle to see Anna Jewell Fryar. Anna Jewell and I had a very good visit. She has recently had a skin cancer removed from her left arm. There were over 50 stitches required. This is the side that was affected by her stroke. We need to keep Anna Jewell in our prayers. She is going to start writing her column again and that will be good. While I wasat the rehagbcenter I discovered thast Beatrice Garner Yeats wasalso there so I visited with her. Her son, Garry and daughter in law, Sheila were also there. Beatrice has broken a section of her neck and she has a neck brace to help in the healing. She will stay at the rehab center until she is better.

Gracie Holloway, of Rover is having heart problems. She was in the Conway Hospital last week for a short time. Gracie does have a blockage but it was determined it was not bad enough to warrant surgery at this time. Gracie is at home and we need to pray for her.

Leslie Harvey was asked by the Friends of the Library to be at the Frontier Day at Plainview last Saturday with his book that he would autograph for people. Next month , Leslie has been asked to speak at the Danville Library to the Historical Society.and interested public.

Let me recommend a good DVD to you. "The Gospel Road" written by Johnny Cash. The screen play and all the music was written and performed by Johnny and it is really good.

In closing remember this Powerful Women/s Motto: "Live you life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning . Satan shudders and says, "Oh, no, she's awake. "!!
