Gunsmoke every day

Gravelly news by Glenna Goodson

A mother took her five year old son with her to the bank on a busy lunchtime. They got behind a very large woman wearing a business suit complete with a pager. As they waited patiently, the little boy said loudly,"Gee, she's fat !" The mother bent down and whispered in the little boy's ear to be quiet. A couple of minutes past by and the little boy spread his hands as far as they wou;d go and announced,{I'll bet her butt is this wide !"The fat woman turns around and glares at the little boy. The mother gave him a good telling off and told him to be quiet. After a brief time, the large woman reached the front of the line. Just then her pager began to emit a beep, beep, beep. The little boy yells out,"Run for your life, she's backing up !"

Every morning my alarm clock here in OKC is the sound of Matt Dillon, Doc or Festus talking on TV's Gunsmoke. Fred watches several shows of Gunsmoke every day--the parts he can see--
Matt begins to look pretty good after sev eral shows.

It is definitely a small world. Loucinda travelled to Harrison last weekend to see her friend Diane, who just lost her husband. oucinda told me she went to church with Diane Sunday andshe said, "Now Glenna that is one S.Baptist preacher that I enjoyed listening to him preach. "She then told me his name was Tommy urner. I almost fainted. I taught school for 24 years with Tommy's mother here in OKC. Then I remembered that Tommy had accepted a call to the Harrison church. I called his Mom and told her to tell Tommy he was the only S.Baptist preacher Loucinda has ever been impressed with.

I was sorry to hear that Hazel Russell of Wing last her son in law, David, last week to cancer. My prayers are with the family.

I was scratching my back with a fork this week. Russ comes in and says "mom, you don't put that fork back in the sliverware drawer when you get through, do you?" Well shoot a monkey, I DO know better then that !"

Charles and Rita Daniel have a great-grasnd-daughter named Rita Margaret. Rita was to be back in Hot Springs last Friday.C harles went to Ted Buford';s funeral and then he and Loucinda went to Little John's restaurant at Danville, Rex Castleberry's restaurant. They had not opened officially, but the cook fixed Loucinda and Charles hamburgers and fries and Loucinda says they were excellent. The restaurant has lifted off with a bang and they have had a lot of business

I received word that Mary Alice Ferguson Carroll has been taking cancer treatments. She was finished with the treatments but she had kidney failure and is in ICU. I don't know what hospital. I pray for Mary Alice. he and I graduated together at FV in 1949.

Watching the trial to see where Anna Nicole Smith was to be buried made me realize all over again the moral decline of this country. The people fighting for custody of the baby and not one cares about the child--they just want all the money that comes with the deal. I'm so glad I was raised in the late 30's and the '40's when I did not ever hear such things. My cousin Billy Euel and I were talking about our wonderful parents and how they raised us right with discipline and love. Billy said"When one of us 6 kids would be mad at another and would do something mean to them, our Mom would make us hug our brother or sister and say we were sorry." He said you were careful not to fight with your siblings cause you did not want to have to hug them. Ah, forthe good ole days !!

Maggie and Tom Sullivan just came back from visiting son Alan and his sons in Nebraska. One grandson was 10 while they were there. Tom showed me a book from a children's book club of which he is a member. He orders the books for the grandchildren. I was impressed with the books. More of us grandparents should consider books for presents instead of those toys we waste our money on.

Ruby Short of Rover is in a nursing home in La. Her hiome at Rover is up for sale. It makes me very sad cause Ruby loved her home and had lived there for many years. I really miss her at Rover church. She was very faithful to all services.

Jonnie Sue Willis is in re-hab at St. Joseoph's in Hot Springs. Paula from Ala. is in Mena with Pam as of now.

Fred's expensive prescription that was supposed to take away his desire to smoke is not working for him.He says he seems to want a cigarette even more. I was sure hoping this would help him cause others said it really worked for them.

Maggie Sullivan and her twin sister, Marie Herrin plan to go to Branson to celebrate their birthday, March 17th. Sounds like lots of fun.

Remember--Don't let what you cannot do, interfere with what you CAN do.
